Our Goal

The A.T.E.M Shell. The revolutionary solution to what is lacking in the automobile industry. By providing an innovative solution to the problem of maintaining factory structural build of car exteriors. Traditional repairs for minor damages such as dents and scratches can be costly. Even a simple scratch/dent can set you back a couple hundred or even thousands. This also in return, often diminishes the lifespan of a car. With the use of shape-memory alloy Nitinol, the A.T.E.M Shell can self-repair such damages, potentially reducing the need for repair and further enhancing the durability of the vehicle. The self-healing technology properties alongside the use of heat has been tried out. This technology has even been used and recognized in the aerospace industry.

Similar solutions exist, like scratch-resistant paints or coatings; however, these cannot heal deeper structural damages and must be reapplied frequently. A.T.E.M Shell provides for complete structural recovery, where dents in its sheet reshape automatically due to the Nitinol sheet's inherent memory properties. This could be quite an exciting solution not only for premium car buyers but also for automakers in need of high-performance, cost-efficient, and environmentally friendly solutions. Given that its initial focus would be on making it affordable, and durable, and forging strategic partnerships with automakers for success.

Nitinol, the shape memory alloy

Nitinol is an odd metal alloy of nickel and titanium; it possesses the so-called "shape memory" property. More precisely, after deformations-Nitinol can be bent, stretched, or compressed-the material assumes its memorized shape by heating. The supporting science for this behavior is based on a phase transformation between two crystalline phases: martensite and austenite. At lower temperatures, Nitinol is in its martensitic phase, where it can be deformed easily. If it is heated, it transforms into its austenitic phase, where it "remembers" the shape it had previously to the deformation and regains that shape. These phase changes without permanent damage ensure it is very resilient and versatile.

Shape memory functionality in the automotive industry for Nitinol would allow the development of self-repairing car parts. In the case of a minor accident involving dents or structural deformities with a Nitinol alloy in a car shell, for example, such would return to previous states through simple heating; the alloy would bend back to its original shape, fixing the damage without the need for expensive repairs or part replacements. This will bring a revolution in car design, drastically reducing the maintenance cost, extending the life of the vehicle, and making them much more durable; hence, this is a game-changing material for modern cars.
